It's getting Wilder - Bigger - One mural - In 36 Pieces

New location: Crescent Heights Community Hall

Wilder!

Is a Community Engagement Art-Project by Doro Buch supported by the City of Calgary and the Crescent Heights Community Association

What:

- A  community mural, showing Alberta’s wildlife and highlighting endangered species.

- Painted by 33 friends and neighbours of Crescent Heights. Every participant got a tile with outlines, some info about her/his animal or plant   and paint so she/he could participate covid-safe from home.

- In total 16 endangered creatures and plants + one mountain goat, grasshopper, ladybug, an unknown bird, dog, man with big hands and lots of prairie grass.

- Based on the guide to Endangered And Threatened Species by Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development.

- All the individual art pieces are installed as a big mural outside the Crescent Heights Community  Hall.

With the opening event I would like to thank all the participants and supporters.

You Belong - Crescent Heights Village BIA

Art Bench Project - 2021

The #YouBelongInCHV Art Bench Program pairs local artists with local non-profits in the diversity and inclusion space to create a piece of functional art to live in Crescent Heights Village giving pedestrians a place to rest and people watch along Centre Street while creating awareness and support for the important work the non-profits do every day.

Monica Ila my partner and I are working with the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association on our You Belong Art Bench.

The benches will be debuted February 12-14 at the self-guided, socially distanced Crescent Moon Festival in Crescent Heights Village.

Wild! Community Engagement Project. 2020

2 creatures - 20 small and big artists

The challenge:

I asked friends and neighbours to help me with the creation of a creature. Everyone got one part of the design and was free to use any materials they could find in and around their house to create their piece. Using recyclables or natural materials was more than welcome. No one knows how the other pieces look like nor what creature they are working on.

The result:

Two giant animals created by 20 small and big artist - together but distanced.

This was the first of hopefully many more paint togethers in covid - times.

Would you like to join in the next round? I'm looking right now for new artists but also gallery hosts who would like to make a similar project on their house, fence in their window or as a street painting...

Let me know!

Do  you like to know more about this project or  to do something similar in your street, neighbourhood, city or country.

Please feel free to contact me. Let's transform our cities!

Workshops

I love science – Do you too?

One day, talking to my friends about art and science, we found similar goals and motivations in understanding and describing the world around us.  This is when the idea of combining both Art & Science in Workshops was born. Since then I put up some workshops in collaboration with scientists and organizations like Beakerhead or Contemporary Calgary, to convey interesting facts, for instance about our ecosystems or microcosm, and to process those knowledge creatively using unusual art techniques and materials. The workshops are for young and old, from art newbies to experienced artist - it's all about being creative and having fun.

Are you interested lo learn more about the workshops?

Follow me on social media and/or contact me and subscribe to the mailing list.

Looking forward to seeing you there next time!
